The province’s top amateur golfers are at Elmhurst Golf & Country Club this weekend competing in the Elmhurst Invitational Amateur Championship.
The 36 hole event featuring 57 competitors will tee off at 2:00 Saturday afternoon with three divisions of competition: junior girls, junior boys and men’s division.

Thanks to the generous contributions of the Alex & Peggy Colonello Foundation, participants in the junior boys and girls division were assisted with their registration fee.
Once again this year, the winner of the men’s division will receive an exemption to either the Canadian Men’s Amateur Championship in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan or the Canadian Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship in Manotick, Ontario.
Founded in 2003 by long-time Elmhurst member John Multan, the Elmhurst Invitational Amateur Championship has become one of the highest regarded amateur events held in the province outside of the Golf Manitoba championship calendar. The field is continually one of the strongest of the year with most of the province’s top players taking part.
Past champions include the likes of the DP World Tour’s Aaron Cockerill, along with past Manitoba Men’s Amateur Champions Garth Collings, Derek East, Todd Fanning, Matt Johnston, Brad Kirton and Peter More.
Hammerback, Hayden, Lafleche and St. Laurent earn 2024 All Abilities, Women’s City & District and U15 Championships at John Blumberg Golf Course

Kristian Hammerback (Southwood Golf & Country Club) shot a final round 9-over par 79 at John Blumberg Golf Course to edge Calgary’s Kyle Miller claiming the All Abilities Championship Saturday night. Hammerback’s one stroke lead following Friday’s opening round was the difference as he and Miller had the identical scores in round two.
Hammerback also finished first in the Net Stableford Division with 67 points, three better than Shane Dyck (Pine Ridge Golf Club).
Ryder St. Laurent (Team Manitoba / Niakwa Country Club) with a two day total of 12 over par 156 (73-83) earned a five stroke victory over Owen Conrad (Team Manitoba / St. Charles Country Club) to win the Junior Boys U15 Championship presented by the Alex & Peggy Colonello Foundation.
Jewel Lafleche (Niakwa Country Club) won the Junior Girls U15 crown with a 166 total (79-87), 12 strokes better than Maisy Shewchuk (Team Manitoba / Golf Manitoba Public Players Club).

For the fourth time in her career, Charmaine Hayden (Breezy Bend Country Club) is the Women’s City & District Champion. Hayden birdied the 2nd and 10th holes during her final round to secure a one stroke victory over Hannah Diamond (St. Charles Country Club).

Ryder Stlaurent (Team Manitoba / Niakwa Country Club) has a four stroke lead entering the final round of the Junior Boys U15 Championship presented by the Alex & Peggy Colonello Foundation Saturday afternoon at John Blumberg Golf Course. Stlaurent’s 1-over par 73 featured two birdies, 13 pars and three bogeys. Hunter Oakden (Team Manitoba / Glendale Golf Club) and Owen Conrad (Team Manitoba / St. Charles Country Club) are tied for second place at 5-over par 77.
Jewel Lafleche (Niakwa Country Club) is up by 11 strokes in the Junior Girls Championship following a 6-over par 79 on Maisy Shewchuk (Team Manitoba / Golf Manitoba Public Players Club).
Grant Secord (St. Charles Country Club) has a six stroke lead on Ty Montour (Scotswood Links) in the 12 & Under Junior Boys Division.
Shewchuk leads the 12 & Under Junior Girls Division by 13 strokes over Sadie Blazeiko (Team Manitoba / Pine Ridge Golf Club)
Hannah Diamond (St. Charles Country Club) has a one stroke lead on three time champion Charmaine Hayden (Breezy Bend Country Club) for the Women’s City & District Championship. Diamond is at 6-over par 78, while Hayden opened with a 79.

Kristian Hammerback (Southwood Golf & Country Club) and Kyle Miller of Calgary are separated by a single stroke in the Gross Division of the All Abilities Championship. Hammerback made back to back birdies on the eighth and ninth holes carding a 7-over par 77 while Miller shot a 78.
In the Net Stableford Division, Shane Dyck (Pine Ridge Golf Club) is in first place with 37 points, two up on Hammerback.

Ryder Stlaurent (Team Manitoba / Niakwa Country Club) is also taking part after winning the 12 & under Boys championship last year.

Lafleche top Manitoban; leads Junior Girls at NextGen Prairie Championship

Niakwa Country Club‘s Jeri Lafleche has a three stroke lead in the Junior Girls Championship entering Sunday’s final round at Whitewater Golf Club in Thunder Bay, Ontario at the NextGen Prairie Championship.
Lafleche shot a 1-over par 73 in Saturday’s second round to sit a 4-over par 148 through 36 holes.
Nathan Lepore of the host club, at 6-over par 150 (78-72) sits fourth on the leaderboard, six strokes back of Saskatoon’s Ryan Mosher in the Junior Boys Championship

Team Manitoba member Addison Kartusch of St. Charles Country Club, Rob Oliphant of Rossmere Country Club and Elmhurst Golf & Country Club’s Marco Trstenjak opened the 2024 Golf Manitoba Championship season on a winning note Sunday in the Match Play Championship presented by St. Vital Dental Centre at Breezy Bend Country Club.
Kartusch earned a 6&5 victory over Jeri Lafleche of Niakwa Country Club winning the Women’s title for the second straight year and third time in the past four years.
Trstenjak is also a two time winner. The 2022 champion was 4-under par through the opening five holes going on to beat Thomas Scott of Dauphin Lake Golf Club 4&3 to win the Men’s title.
