Golf Manitoba is pleased to announce its 2025 Championship Schedule.
As the Provincial Sport Organization and governing body of golf in Manitoba and Northwest Ontario, Golf Manitoba conducts premier amateur golf championships to support the development of the province’s competitive golfers at Golf Manitoba member clubs.
The 2025 championship season begins May 24th at Winkler Golf & Country Club with the Manitoba Match Play Qualifier presented by St. Vital Dental Centre and concludes with the Men’s Senior Four-Ball Championship September 4th at the Pinawa Golf & Country Club.
“We are excited to officially announce our 2025 Championship Schedule” said Director of Competition and Rules David Borowski. “2024 once again showed a record number of golfers enjoying our sport at both the recreational and competitive levels. With the courses we have set to host our 2025 championships, there will be a lot of excitement. I would like to thank our member clubs for working these championships into their very busy calendars.”
Early registration will open from April 1st to April 15th for select players and based on their finish in 2024 Golf Manitoba Championships. These players will receive an email informing them of their status.
General registration will open on April 16th.

2025 Golf Manitoba Championship Season Calendar at a glance:
For the sixth time is course history, Elmhurst Golf & Country Club will host the championship matches from May 29th to June 1st. The last time it was played at Elmhurst was 2016 when Tom Humniski of the host club won his second consecutive Men’s Senior Championship.
Carman Golf & Curling Club will host the All Abilities Championship, Women’s City & District Championship and U15 Championship presented by the Alex & Peggy Colonello Foundation June 7th and 8th.
The Diamond Athletic Men’s Mid-Amateur and Women’s Amateur Qualifier will be contested at Transcona Golf Club June 20th. The 54 hole Championship will be played at St. Charles Country Club July 2nd to 4th where Addison Kartusch looks to defend her 2024 Women’s Amateur Championship at her home course.
The Junior Boys & Girls Championship presented by the Alex & Peggy Colonello Foundation will be played July 7th to 9th at Quarry Oaks Golf Course.
The Men’s Four-Ball Championship is scheduled for August 28th at Wheat City Golf Course in Brandon.
The Men’s Senior Four-Ball Championship on September 4th at Pinawa Golf & Country Club concludes our championship summer of competition.

In addition to Golf Manitoba’s annual events, we are pleased to celebrate our athletes August 11th to 14th who will take part in the Manitoba Summer Games in Dauphin.
2024 Golf Manitoba Championship Season Calendar at a glance:
Breezy Bend Country Club will then host the championship matches from May 27 to June 2. It will be the fifth time in course history they host the event. Looking back in the record books, Breezy Bend members Jesse Skelton (2011), Garth Collings (1996) and Bill Parker (1981) previously won the Men’s Championship on their home course.
The John Blumberg Golf Course will host the All Abilities Championship, Women’s City & District Championship and U15 Championship presented by the Alex & Peggy Colonello Foundation June 14th and 15th.
For the first time in course history the Diamond Athletic Men’s Mid-Amateur and Women’s Amateur Championship will be played at the Neepawa Golf & Country Club July 4th to 6th. Jeri Lafleche of Clear Lake Golf Course will be vying for her third consecutive Women’s Amateur championship.
The Junior Boys & Girls Championship presented by the Alex & Peggy Colonello Foundation will be played July 10th to 12th at Niakwa Country Club. The last time this event was held at Niakwa, Stony Mountain’s Aaron Cockerill won the Junior Boys Championship in 2010.
Rossmere Country Club will host the Nott Autocorp Men’s Amateur Championship July 22nd to 24th. Breezy Bend’s Braxton Kuntz will be looking to become the first player in Manitoba history to win four consecutive Men’s Amateur championships.
The busy month of July comes to an end at Selkirk Golf & Country Club from the 29th to 31st as they host the Hodson Financial Men’s & Women’s Senior Championship. Rhonda Orr of Southwood Golf & Country Club is vying for her ninth straight and 11th Senior Women’s Championship.
The popular two person four-ball championships close our summer of competition with the Women playing August 8th at Portage Golf Club, the Men’s Senior event at Shilo Country Club September 5th followed by the Men’s championship two weeks later at Grand Pines Golf Club on September 19th.

Jay Doyle (Niakwa Country Club) needed a two hole playoff to defeat clubmate Todd Fanning in capturing the 2023 Hodson Financial Men’s Senior Championship at St. Boniface Golf Club.
Doyle shot a one under par 71 in his final round to finish the 54 hole event at 214 while Fanning carded a 73 Friday. Both players made par on the opening playoff hole before Doyle birdied the second hole for victory.
Mike Walker (St. Boniface) won the Super Senior Men’s Championship by three strokes over David Klowak (Golf Manitoba Public Players Club).
Rene Abgrall (Golf Manitoba Public Players Club) won the Forward Tee Championship.

For the eighth consecutive year, Rhonda Orr (Southwood Golf & Country Club) is the Hodson Financial Women’s Senior Champion.
It was a 15 stroke victory for Orr, who carded an 82 in her final round, to finish her three rounds with a 241 total.
Tammy Gibson (Niakwa) and Fran Povoledo (Southwood) tied for second place at 256. Gibson shot an 80 Friday while Povoledo had an 87.
Orr also won the Super Senior Championship by the same margin over Gibson.
Dee Bullough (Golf Manitoba Public Players Club) won the Net Division Forward Tee Championship.

Playing in his first senior’s event after capturing five Men’s Amateur titles, Todd Fanning (Niakwa Country Club) has a two stroke lead entering Friday’s final round of the Hodson Financial Men’s Senior Championship at St. Boniface Golf Club.
Fanning, who was four under par after his opening nine holes, went two over the back to sit at three under par, 141 through 36 holes.
Fellow Niakwa member Jay Doyle is second on the Manitoba Blue Cross leaderboard at 143 after a three under par 69, which featured four birdies over his final eight holes.
Mike Walker (St. Boniface) leads the Super Seniors Division by four strokes over Ken Warwick (Niakwa).

Meanwhile, Senior Women’s veteran Rhonda Orr (Southwood Golf & Country Club) is 18 holes away from her eighth consecutive title and 10th overall since 2013.
Orr carded a 82 during her second round for a 159 total, 10-strokes clear of Fran Povoledo (Southwood) who shot an 89.
Orr also leads the Super Seniors Division by 17 strokes over Tammy Gibson (Niawka) and Lisa Benson (St. Charles Country Club).

Mike Walker (St. Boniface) and Dan Scanlon (Golf Manitoba Public Players Club) are tied for second place at 73.
Jay Doyle (Niakwa), John Multan (Elmhurst Golf & Country Club) and Al Briscoe (St. Boniface) round out the top five on the Manitoba Blue Cross leaderboard at 74.
Walker leads the Super Senior Division by three strokes over David Klowak (Golf Manitoba Public Players Club).
Dwight Kearns (Shilo Country Club) has an 18 stroke lead on Rene Abgrall (Golf Manitoba Public Players Club) in the Forward Tee Division.

Defending champion Rhonda Orr (Southwood Golf & Country Club) has a three stroke lead on Fran Povoledo (Southwood) through 18 holes of the Women’s Senior Championship.
Orr opened the 54 hole event with a three over 77. Heather Shayna (Southwood) shot an 84 while Lisa Benson (St. Charles Country Club) and Michelle Gisiger (Niakwa) round out the top five at 86.
Orr also leads the Super Senior Division by nine strokes over Benson.

Golf Manitoba (Carman, MB) – The conditions were absolutely perfect in Carman for the third and final round of the 2020 Senior Women’s & Men’s Championships, the final major of the Golf Manitoba event season.
In the women’s championship event, Rhonda Orr of the Southwood Golf & Country Club went wire-to-wire to win her fifth straight senior women’s championship and her seventh in the past eight years. Orr, started the day with a two shot lead over Tammy Gibson of the Niakwa Country Club. Orr put together her best round of the 54-hole event with a 8-over par score of 79 for a three day total of 240. Gibson posted an 86 for a 249 total to finish alone in second place while Gail Kennedy of the St. Charles Country Club also posted 86 to move her into solo third at 261.
In the forward tee division, Karen Saarimaki of the Kenagomisis Golf Club took top honours by shooting a final round 81 to close her tournament with a 248 total. Nancy Porth of the Niakwa Country Club started the day in second place where she finished closing with an 88 and a 261 total. Saarimaki also took top spot in the Super Senior (60+) division.
In the men’s championship event, Bruce North of the Carman Golf & Curling Club came back from a two shot deficit to capture his second senior title. North, carded an even par round of 71, the low of the day, to edge defending champion Mike Walker of the St. Boniface Golf Club by a single shot. It was a tight finish with North and Walker coming to the last hole tied after Walker dunked his approach shot on the 53rd hole for an eagle two. On the 54th hole, North holed a 12-foot birdie putt to take the title and the second senior championship that he has won while playing on his home course.
Rounding out the top five was John Multan of the Elmhurst Golf & Country Club who finished alone in third, Allan Wheeler of the Rossmere Country Club took fourth spot, and Al Briscoe of the St. Boniface Golf Club finished in fifth.
In the forward tee division, Barry Minish of the Niakwa Country Club finished with his best round of the event shooting 75 for a 232 total to win by a single shot over Steve Wallace of the Transcona Country Club. Minish also captured the Super Senior title (65+).

Recap: Round two of the 2020 Senior Women’s & Men’s Championships
Golf Manitoba (Carman, MB) – It was another sunny but windy day at the Carman Golf & Curling Club for round two of the 2020 Senior Women’s & Men’s Championships.
In the women’s overall championship event, defending champion Rhonda Orr of the Southwood Golf & Country Club was able to protect her first round lead by posting a 10-over par round of 81 for a 161 two-day total. Tammy Gibson of the Niakwa Country Club countered with the low round of the day with an 8-over par score of 79 and good enough for solo second place at 163. Cathy Adams of the Carman Golf & Curling Club sits in solo third at 173.
In the all new forward tee division, Karen Saarimaki of the Kenagomisis Golf Club continues her hold on first spot at 167 and Nancy Porth of the Niakwa Country Club is in second place and just six shots back of Saarimaki at 173. Both Saarimaki and Porth are also in first and second respectively in the Super Senior (60+) division.
In the men’s overall championship event, Garth Collings of the Breezy Bend Country Club moved into first place after carding a second round score of 73 for a 147 total. Mike Walker of the St. Boniface Golf Club slipped down a spot and into second place after shooting a 78 for a 148 total. There is a three-way tie for third at 149 that includes Russel Slobodian of the Rossmere Country Club, defending champion Bruce North of the Carman Golf & Country Club and John Multan of the Elmhurst Golf & Country Club. North had the move of the day by posting the day’s lowest score with an even-par round of 71.
In the forward tee division, Mike Berney of the Transcona Country Club continues to hold his lead after shooting 77 for a 151 total. Berney also leads in the Super Senior Division (65+).
Recap: Round one of the 2020 Senior Women’s & Men’s Championships
Golf Manitoba (Carman, MB) – It was a beautiful sunny day for round one of the 2020 Senior Women’s & Men’s Championships being contested at the Carman Golf & Curling Club. These are the last of the two major provincial championships on the Golf Manitoba calendar.
In the women’s event, defending champion Rhonda Orr of the Southwood Golf & Country Club picked up where she left off finding herself at the top of the leaderboard after round one. Orr opened with a 9-over par round of 80 good enough for a four shot lead over Tammy Gibson of the the Niakwa Country club who posted a first round score of 84. There is a three-way tie for third with including Gail Kennedy of St. Charles Country Club, Cathy Derewianchuk (Glendale Golf & Country Club) and Barb Lafleche of the Teulon Golf & Country Club all shooting 85.
In the all new forward tee division, there is a tie for first with Karen Saarimaki of the Kenagomisis Golf Club and Nancy Porth of the Niakwa Country Club opened with 10-over par rounds of 81. Both Saarimaki and Porth also are tied for lead in the Super Senior (60+) division.
On the men’s side, again another familiar name topped the leaderboard after Monday’s opening round. Mike Walker, the defending champion playing out of the St. Boniface Golf Club, opened with a tidy 1-under par of 70 and was the only player in the field to break par. Walker has a two shot lead over John Multan (Elmhurst Golf & Country Club) and Ken Warwick (Niakwa Country Club) who both posted a 1-over par rounds of 72.
In the forward tee division, Mike Berney of the Transcona Country Club leads after shooting a 3-over par round of 74. Berney also leads the Super Senior Division (65+).
Golf Manitoba (Winnipeg) – The 2020 Senior Women’s & Men’s Championships are set to go July 27-29 at the Carman Golf & Curling Club. These are the last two provincial championships of the 2020 Golf Manitoba event season.

In the 2019 Senior Women’s Championship, it was the steady and consistent play from Rhonda Orr that helped her claim her second straight senior women’s championship. Orr played three solid rounds of golf on the Rossmere layout posting scores of 77-78-77 that was good enough for an 18-shot victory over runner-up Tammy Gibson of Niakwa Country Club who posted rounds of 82-83-85. Mike Walker of the St. Boniface Golf Club held off a late round charge from 2018 Senior Champion Bruce North of the Carman Golf & Curling Club. North, playing in a group ahead of Walker, carded an eagle and two birdies in his last four holes to post an inward nine score of 4-under 30 and a round of 71. Despite the push from North, Walker bounced back from a late round double-bogey with an eagle on the 16th hole and closed with final round 72, good enough for a two shot victory over North.
