Marco Trstenjak of Elmhurst Golf & Country Club shot an 8-under par 63, one stroke off tying a course record, at Winkler Centennial Golf Club Sunday to finish with the low score of 55 Amateur Men vying for a spot in the 2024 Manitoba Match Play Championship presented by St. Vital Dental Centre.
Trstenjak’s round featured a streak of six straight birdies on holes through 10 through 15. Grady Chuback of St. Charles Country Club and Terence Rafferty of Southwood Golf & Country Club tied for second at 1-under par 70.
Team Manitoba member Addison Kartusch of St. Charles fired the Women’s low round at 1-under par 70, two strokes better than Breezy Bend Country Club‘s Charmaine Hayden.
Rossmere Country Club‘s Rob Oliphant at 1-over par 72 edged clubmate Blair Neal by a single stroke in the Senior Men’s division.

The 2024 Golf Manitoba Championship calendar tees off Sunday morning at Winkler Centennial Golf Club as 92 competitors take part in the Manitoba Match Play Championship Qualifier presented by St. Vital Dental Centre.
They are vying for a spot in the brackets of 32 men, eight women and 16 senior men to be contested Monday, May 27th to Sunday, June 2nd at Breezy Bend Country Club.
There will be a new men’s champion in 2024 as defending champion Braxton Kuntz of Breezy Bend is unable to attend due to the U.S. Open Qualifier. 2022 champion Marco Trstenjak of Elmhurst Golf & Country Club is back vying for another title.
Rossmere Country Club’s Blair Neal returns to defend his senior men’s championship.
Addison Kartusch of St. Charles Country Club also returns to defend her crown in the women’s bracket.

Golf Manitoba is pleased to announce its 2024 Championship Schedule.
As the Provincial Sport Organization and governing body of golf in Manitoba and Northwest Ontario, Golf Manitoba conducts premier amateur golf championships to support the development of the province’s competitive golfers at Golf Manitoba member clubs.
The 2024 championship season begins May 25th at the Winkler Golf & Country Club with the Manitoba Match Play Qualifier presented by St. Vital Dental Centre and concludes with the Men’s Four-Ball Championship September 19th at Grand Pines Golf Club.
“With the calendar only a couple weeks away from January, we are excited to officially announce our 2024 Championship Schedule” said Director of Competition and Rules David Borowski. “2023 showed record numbers of people enjoying our sport and we are looking forward to growing those numbers even more in 2024. I would like to express our gratitude to the member clubs who have opened their doors allowing us to play at their course this year.”
Early registration will open from April 1st to April 15th for select players and based on their finish in 2023 Golf Manitoba Championships. These players will receive an email informing them of their status.
General registration will open on April 16th.

In addition to Golf Manitoba’s annual events, we are pleased to celebrate our athletes August 11th to 14th who will take part in the Manitoba Summer Games in Dauphin.
2024 Golf Manitoba Championship Season Calendar at a glance:
The first competitive tee in the ground will be May 25 at the Winkler Centennial Golf Course for the Manitoba Match Play Championship Qualifier presented by St. Vital Dental Centre.
Breezy Bend Country Club will then host the championship matches from May 27 to June 2. It will be the fifth time in course history they host the event. Looking back in the record books, Breezy Bend members Jesse Skelton (2011), Garth Collings (1996) and Bill Parker (1981) previously won the Men’s Championship on their home course.
The John Blumberg Golf Course will host the All Abilities Championship, Women’s City & District Championship and U15 Championship presented by the Alex & Peggy Colonello Foundation June 14th and 15th.
For the first time in course history the Diamond Athletic Men’s Mid-Amateur and Women’s Amateur Championship will be played at the Neepawa Golf & Country Club July 4th to 6th. Jeri Lafleche of Clear Lake Golf Course will be vying for her third consecutive Women’s Amateur championship.
The Junior Boys & Girls Championship presented by the Alex & Peggy Colonello Foundation will be played July 10th to 12th at Niakwa Country Club. The last time this event was held at Niakwa, Stony Mountain’s Aaron Cockerill won the Junior Boys Championship in 2010.
Rossmere Country Club will host the Nott Autocorp Men’s Amateur Championship July 22nd to 24th. Breezy Bend’s Braxton Kuntz will be looking to become the first player in Manitoba history to win four consecutive Men’s Amateur championships.
The busy month of July comes to an end at Selkirk Golf & Country Club from the 29th to 31st as they host the Hodson Financial Men’s & Women’s Senior Championship. Rhonda Orr of Southwood Golf & Country Club is vying for her ninth straight and 11th Senior Women’s Championship.
The popular two person four-ball championships close our summer of competition with the Women playing August 8th at Portage Golf Club, the Men’s Senior event at Shilo Country Club September 5th followed by the Men’s championship two weeks later at Grand Pines Golf Club on September 19th.
Manitoba Amateur Championships
Golf Manitoba annually conducts provincial golf competitions and qualifiers – which play host to more than 900 golfers who play over 1,700 rounds.

The opening event of the 2023 Golf Manitoba Championship season is in the books with Addison Kartusch of St. Charles Country Club, Breezy Bend Country Club’s Braxton Kuntz and Blair Neal of Rossmere Country Club winning their respective divisions of the Match Play Championship presented by St. Vital Dental Centre at Glendale Golf & Country Club.
Kartusch, a Team Manitoba member, claimed the Women’s division trophy with a 2&1 victory over Golf Manitoba Public Players Club member Clara Peake. Kartusch erased a one hole deficit through seven going on to win the 11th, 12th and 15th holes to secure the match.

Neal won the Senior Men’s division on the 18th hole against Dwayne Heinrichs of Bel Acres Golf & Country Club. The lead was never greater than one hole between these players, with Neal taking his first lead of the day on 17.

Kuntz also went the distance versus Marco Trstenjak of Elmhurst Golf & Country Club prevailing on the final hole. Kuntz had a strong run winning holes 9, 10 and 12 to go three up against the defending champion and was able to hold on for victory.

The Men’s, Senior Men’s and Women’s Match Play Champions will be crowned Sunday at Glendale Golf & Country Club.
All three divisions, presented by St. Vital Dental Centre, will see the semi finals played in the morning starting at 7:24. The winners advance to their respective Championship Final teeing off at 1:00.
In the Men’s division, #1 seed Braxton Kuntz (Breezy Bend Country Club) advanced Saturday with a 3&1 victory over Neel Soni (St. Charles Country Club). Kuntz will face #5 seed Jordy Lutz (Elmhurst Golf & Country Club) who prevailed 2&1 over Allan McDonald (Breezy Bend).
#2 seed, and defending champion Marco Trstenjak (Elmhurst) will play #3 seed Evan Nachtigall (Wheat City Golf Course) in the other semi final. Trstenjak beat Lyle MacKenzie (Niakwa Country Club) 6&4 while Nachtigall eliminated Golf Manitoba Public Players Club member Eric Prokopowich 3&2.

Lafleche knocked off Cala Korman (Team Manitoba / Golf Manitoba Public Player) 1up while Peake beat Kate Gregoire (Quarry Oaks Golf Course) 6&5.

The Senior Men’s division will have some interesting matchups with only defending champion, #2 seed Rob Oliphant (Rossmere Country Club) as the lowest seed heading into Sunday’s semis. Oliphant faces #14 seed Dwayne Heinrichs (Bel Acres Golf & Country Club) while #12 seed Kevin Nicholson (Southwood Golf & Country Club) takes on #17 seed Blair Neal (Rossmere).
In Quarter Final play, Oliphant edged Carl Lechman (Elmhurst) 2&1, Heinrichs was a 3&2 winner over Garth Collings (Breezy Bend), Nicholson beat Dan Scanlon (Golf Manitoba Public Players Club) 3up and Neal got past Brad Moore (Pine Ridge Golf Club) 2&1.

Braxton Kuntz of Breezy Bend Country Club shot a four under par 68 at Glendale Golf and Country Club to finish with the low score of 59 Amateur Men vying for a spot in the 2023 Manitoba Match Play Championship presented by St. Vital Dental Centre.
Kuntz finished one stroke better than 2022 Amateur Men’s Champion Marco Trstenjak of Elmhurst Golf & Country Club and Wheat City Golf Course’s Evan Nachtigall. Allan McDonald of Breezy Bend Country Club (70) was the only other player in the 108 person field to break par
