RECAP & WATCH | Second round of the Diamond Athletic Men’s Mid-Amateur & Women’s Amateur Championships at Minnedosa Golf & Country Club

Lyle MacKenzie (Niakwa Country Club) and Tyson Ehnes (Lorette Golf Course) each carded a 4-under par 68 and will enter Saturday’s final round at Minnedosa Golf & Country Club of the Diamond Athletic Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship tied atop of the leaderboard with first round leader Allan McDonald (Breezy Bend Country Club).

All three competitors are at 6-under par 138, two strokes better than Patrick Perrin (Elmhurst Golf & Country Club) and Thomas Friesen (Wheat City Golf Course).

Four players are separated by just two strokes in the Mid-Masters Championship.

Jay Doyle (Niakwa) and Marshall Cox (Southwood Golf & Country Club) are at even par 144 while Curtis Markusson (St. Charles Country Club) and Ben Bandura (Selkirk Golf & Country Club) are at 146.

In the Women’s Amateur Championship, Addison Kartusch (Team Manitoba / St. Charles) has a five stroke lead on Cala Korman (Golf Manitoba Public Players Club) and Crystal Zamzow (Team Manitoba / Swan River Golf & Country Club).

Kartusch and Korman each fired a 1-under par 71 during Friday’s second round while Zamzow had a 2-over par 74.

Rhonda Orr (Southwood) has a five stroke lead on Hannah Diamond (St. Charles) in the Mid-Amateur Championship. Orr shot a 77 in her second round while Diamond had an 87.

LIVE SCORING | McDonald shoots new course record at Minnedosa Golf & Country to open Diamond Athletic Men’s Mid-Amateur, Kartusch leads Women’s Amateur

Allan McDonald (Breezy Bend Country Club) shot a 10-under par 62, setting a new course record at Minnedosa Golf & Country Club, as the 2024 Diamond Athletic Men’s Mid-Amateur got underway. The previous record of 7-under par 65 was held by Darren Hupfer in 2007.

McDonald’s round included 11 birdies, six pars and a bogey.

The 32 year old currently has a six stroke lead on Michael Coutts (Southwood Golf & Country Club) and Derek Cameron (Minnedosa). Both players shot a 4-under par 68.

Clayton Salkeid (Bridges Golf Course) currently has a two stroke lead in the Mid-Masters Championship on Nolan Tutkaluk (Shilo Country Club) and David Kuik (Niakwa Country Club).

Play is scheduled to resume Friday morning at 8:00. The second round is scheduled to tee off at 9:30.

She sits one stroke better than Hannah Diamond (St. Charles), Clara Peake (Minnedosa), Crystal Zamzow (Team Manitoba / Swan River Golf & Country Club) and India Young (Team Manitoba / Carman Golf & Curling Club).

Diamond currently has a two stroke lead on Rhonda Orr (Southwood) in the Mid-Amateur Championship.

PREVIEW | Diamond Athletic Men’s Mid-Amateur and Women’s Amateur Championships at Minnedosa Golf & Country Club

93 competitors will tee off Thursday morning at Minnedosa Golf & Country Club in the 2024 Diamond Athletic Men’s Mid-Amateur and Women’s Amateur Championships

Included in the field of 73 men vying for the Mid-Amateur title are defending champion Patrick Perrin (Elmhurst Golf & Country Club), 2020 champion Allan McDonald (Breezy Bend Country Club) and two time champion Ben Bandura (Selkirk Golf & Country Club).

Two time defending champion Jeri Lafleche (Niakwa Country Club) headlines the 20 competitors vying for the Women’s Amateur crown.

The last person to win the Women’s Amateur three straight years was Aileen Robertson (St. Charles Country Club) from 1994 to 1996.

Team Manitoba members have big weekend on Maple Leaf Junior Tour

It was a successful weekend for Manitoba’s young golf stars as the Maple Leaf Junior Tour held a pair of tournaments.

Ty Brewster, Owen Conrad, Kaleb Lambert, Payton Oakden and Grant Secord won their respective divisions at the Maui Jim Series at Transcona Golf Club.

Brewster (Team Manitoba / Quarry Oaks Golf Course) and Adam Blair (Team Manitoba / Pine Ridge Golf Club) finished tied through 36 holes in the Juvenile Boys Championship, one stroke better than Brayden Boge (Team Manitoba / Rossmere Country Club). Brewster prevailed in a playoff for top spot.

Conrad (Team Manitoba / St. Charles Country Club) had the largest margin of victory in the Bantam Boys event winning by 12 strokes over Ryder St. Laurent (Team Manitoba / Niakwa Country Club).

Lambert (Team Manitoba / Elmhurst Golf & Country Club) shot a 4-under par 67 in his final round to earn a nine stroke decision in the Junior Boys Championship over Feanor Valaquenta (Southwood Golf & Country Club).

Oakden (Team Manitoba / Glendale Golf & Country Club) claimed the U15-19 Girls championship by two strokes over Gracie McMillan (Team Manitoba / Pine Ridge Golf Club).

Secord (Team Manitoba / Golf Manitoba Public Players Club) earned a four stroke victory over Ty Montour (Scotswood Links) in the Peewee Boys division.

Austin Boge (Pine Ridge Golf Club) and Hayden Delaloye (Neepawa Golf & Country Club) finished fourth and fifth respectively on the leaderboard at the Future Stars Invitational presented by ATB at Northern Bear Golf Club in Sherwood Park, Alberta.

Boge had rounds of 76-75 for a 151 total, three strokes back of first place. Delaloye went 75-77 to finish at 152.

RESULTS & WATCH | Chuback, Trstenjak & Zamzow repeat at Elmhurst Invitational

For the second consecutive year, Grady Chuback (Team Manitoba / St. Charles Country Club), Crystal Zamzow (Team Manitoba / Swan River Golf & Country Club) and Marco Trstenjak (Elmhurst Golf & Country Club) are champions of the Elmhurst Invitational at Elmhurst Golf & Country Club.

Chuback won the Junior Boys title in a playoff versus Carson Inman (Portage Golf Club). Both players finished at 11-over par through 36 holes. Chuback made a par on the first playoff hole for the win.

After opening on Saturday with a 4-under par 67, Trstenjak cruised to the Men’s Championship with another 67 earning an eight stroke decision over Braxton Kuntz (Breezy Bend Country Club) and Jordy Lutz (Elmhurst Golf & Country Club). Kuntz had the low round Sunday at 5-under par 66 while Lutz had a sensational opening nine holes with a 5-under par 31.

Zamzow is wearing the Junior Girls crown once again following an 11 stroke victory over Keira Krahn (Team Manitoba / Carman Golf & Curling Club). Both players carded impressive rounds of 2-over par 75 during Sunday’s final round.

The province’s top amateur golfers are at Elmhurst Golf & Country Club this weekend competing in the Elmhurst Invitational Amateur Championship.

The 36 hole event featuring 57 competitors will tee off at 2:00 Saturday afternoon with three divisions of competition: junior girls, junior boys and men’s division.

Thanks to the generous contributions of the Alex & Peggy Colonello Foundation, participants in the junior boys and girls division were assisted with their registration fee.

Once again this year, the winner of the men’s division will receive an exemption to either the Canadian Men’s Amateur Championship in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan or the Canadian Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship in Manotick, Ontario.

Founded in 2003 by long-time Elmhurst member John Multan, the Elmhurst Invitational Amateur Championship has become one of the highest regarded amateur events held in the province outside of the Golf Manitoba championship calendar. The field is continually one of the strongest of the year with most of the province’s top players taking part.

Past champions include the likes of the DP World Tour’s Aaron Cockerill, along with past Manitoba Men’s Amateur Champions Garth Collings, Derek East, Todd Fanning, Matt Johnston, Brad Kirton and Peter More.
