An impressive field will converge on the Neepawa Golf & Country Club at 8:00 Thursday morning as Golf Manitoba welcomes 116 competitors to the Nott Autocorp Men’s Amateur Championship.
In the first four day tournament on the championship calendar, golfers play 36 holes looking to stave off elimination. Friday night, the field will be cut to the low 60 players and ties, as well as any players within 10 strokes of first place. Those players will advance to Saturday and Sunday.
2020 champion Marco Trsteniak of the Elmhurst Golf & Country Club, who was the only player to finish below par at two under, is looking forward to defending his title.
“Being a 72 hole tournament it’s one that everyone will have their game ready for, you need to be as mentally tough as you can or you will get yourself in trouble” said Trsteniak. “Hitting irons off the tee will be a play to have success with because once you make that one big number it can really cost you. Hitting it 320 or 330 off the tee on this course won’t do anything for you. I’m very happy with where my game is at, really working hard on my wedge game”.
Other notables in the field include Diamond Athletic Men’s Mid-Amateur runner up Jordy Lutz of Elmhurst Golf & Country Club and third place finisher Ryan Sholdice of Breezy Bend Country Club along with Junior champion Braxton Kuntz, also of Breezy Bend and Bantam champion Jackson Delaurier, a Golf Manitoba Public Players club member.
