Handicap Certification Seminars
Since 2003, Golf Manitoba and Golf Canada have been providing member clubs with educational sessions relating to the handicap system. To date, approximately four hundred participants have attended these seminars.
These seminars are being offered as part of the copyright agreement between Golf Canada and the United States Golf Association (USGA) to try and maintain a consistent manner in which the handicap system is utilized. Each member club is required to have at least one person participate in the seminar. Golf Manitoba would encourage clubs to consider both volunteers and staff to attend. These people will then become resources at the club level for all handicap inquiries. If you have already had someone attend, we would also encourage you to send others.
These seminars are a more in-depth look into Handicapping and will give attendees a thorough knowledge of the Golf Canada Handicap system. The Handicap Seminars are beneficial for Handicap Committee members, Golf Professionals, Superintendents, General Managers, Club Members and others interested in learning more about Handicapping in general. These seminars are approximately 4 hours long, and include a copy of the Golf Canada Handicap System Manual, as well as other relevant Handicap topics and materials. The cost for the seminars is $25 + GST and covers the cost of the room rental, food and beverage and all course materials.
NEW for 2020 is the introduction of the World Handicap System. More information on the World Handicap System (WHS) and its implementation, is available HERE >>.
Online Rules of Handicapping Certification
As the governing body of golf in Canada, Golf Canada requires that all member clubs have at least one certified Handicap Official, as well as have a Handicap Committee in place.
In order to help each club achieve this requirement, Golf Canada is pleased to launch the Online Rules of Handicapping Certification — a series of videos will guide you through the Rules of Handicapping, providing the knowledge necessary to achieve certification and successfully oversee handicap duties at your club. Click here to access the Rules of Handicapping certification videos.
A short quiz will test your knowledge, and successful completion will provide you with Handicap Certification.
2021 Handicap Information & Certification Webinars
Our partners at Golf Ontario are hosting several Handicap Certification seminars this season as part of Handicapping education and to help member clubs, members, and general public achieve certification. These seminars provide an in-depth look into Handicapping and Course Rating and will give attendees a thorough knowledge of the Golf Canada Handicap and Course Rating system.
The Handicap Seminars are beneficial for Club Members, Handicap Committee members, Golf Professionals, Superintendents, Owner/Operators and General Managers.
Due to Coronavirus (COVID-19), all WHS seminars will now be conducted online.
